South Side Symphony Orchestra is proud to present Symphonic Journeys: From Beach to Beethoven, an inspiring afternoon of music led by its Musical Director, Izaak Wesson. The concert will take place on Sunday 23 November, 2025, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm at Corpus Christi College. Audiences will be treated to two monumental works that combine lyrical beauty, sweeping power, and symphonic brilliance.

The highlight of the program will be Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61, performed by internationally renowned violinist Laurence Jackson, Concertmaster of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. Laurence’s distinguished career spans Europe and Australia, where he has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral leader. He was previously first violinist of the internationally acclaimed Maggini String Quartet, touring extensively and recording award-winning albums. Since relocating to Perth in 2016, Laurence has become a central figure in Western Australia’s musical life, admired for his artistry, versatility, and leadership. With his world-class experience and expressive musicianship, Laurence will bring fresh insight and brilliance to Beethoven’s most lyrical and majestic concerto — a performance not to be missed.

The program also features Amy Beach’s Symphony No. 2 in E minor, Op. 32 (“Gaelic”). Hailed as the first symphony composed and published by an American woman, the Gaelic Symphony is a powerful blend of romantic orchestral tradition and lyrical folk-inspired themes. Richly scored and emotionally charged, the work weaves together haunting melodies and soaring climaxes, offering an evocative and deeply moving musical journey

Established in 2011, South Side Symphony Orchestra is a not-for-profit community ensemble based in Melville, made up of over 60 dedicated musicians from diverse backgrounds. “It’s a privilege to lead this program,” says Musical Director Izaak Wesson. “Pairing Beethoven’s timeless violin concerto with Beach’s ground-breaking Gaelic Symphony creates a concert that’s both deeply moving and historically significant. Having Laurence Jackson join us is a true highlight for the orchestra — his performance will be an unforgettable moment for our players and audience alike.”
