Musical Director

Izaak Wesson

Izaak Wesson is a conductor and musicologist from Perth, Western Australia. A graduate of the University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music, Izaak completed undergraduate studies in French Horn performance and a master’s degree in musicology that focused on medievalism in the contemporary operas of John Adams. He is an alum of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s Emerging Conductors Program, as well as the Melbourne Youth Orchestra’s Conductor Development Program.

For five years, Izaak was Conductor and Artistic Director of the Perth Orchestra Project, a critically acclaimed chamber orchestra which he founded in 2017. From 2021–2023, he was also Music Director of the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of WA. Since 2023, Izaak has held dual appointments as the Music Director of the South Side Symphony Orchestra, and as Conductor and Artistic Advisor to the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. In 2026 he debuts with both the Philharmonic South West, and UWA Choral Society (UWACS). A passionate advocate of new music, Izaak has commissioned and premiered more than a dozen works for orchestra, and conducted the Western Australian premiere of numerous other pieces.

We are thrilled to have Izaak in the leadership role and feel privileged to be working with such a talented young Perth musician. He will be building on from the wonderful legacy of Rob Gladstones and his predecessors.
