Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music as South Side Symphony Orchestra presents two beloved Romantic masterworks. We are thrilled to welcome Rod McGrath, principal cellist of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, as our guest soloist for Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B minor. Renowned for his expressive depth and technical brilliance, Rod brings decades of international experience to this powerful and poetic work—considered one of the finest cello concertos ever written. With its sweeping melodies, dramatic contrasts, and heartfelt lyricism, this is a performance not to be missed.
The concert also features Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, a radiant and lyrical piece that reflects the composer’s love of nature and the countryside. Often described as Brahms’ most cheerful and optimistic symphony, it unfolds with warmth, grace, and a sense of pastoral serenity. From the lush opening to the exhilarating finale, this symphony is a joyful journey through the richness of the Romantic orchestral sound.
South Side Symphony Orchestra is a not for profit, community ensemble. Established in 2011, the orchestra is based in Melville with over 60 enthusiastic, vibrant musicians from all sorts of backgrounds united by their passion for sharing classical music with the community.
