The concert will open with Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite, a vibrant and expressive suite drawn from the composer’s incidental music for the play L’Arlésienne. Full of rich, atmospheric melodies and dramatic flair, this work is a striking example of Bizet’s genius, with elements of both pastoral beauty and fiery intensity that transport audiences to the heart of southern France.

The concert will close with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, one of the most famous and dramatic works in the orchestral repertoire. Known for its bold, fate-defying opening motif, the symphony remains one of the most recognized pieces in classical music history. Beethoven’s masterful orchestration and unparalleled emotional depth will resonate throughout the Theatre at Corpus Christi, taking listeners on a powerful journey.

Musical Director Izaak Wesson says “In this performance, the force of destiny meets the vibrant heart of Provence. Bizet’s vibrant, dramatic music to L’Arlésienne is full of passion and beauty, with sweeping soundscapes the background to a tragic romance. Luscious melodies, peeling bells, and Provençale drums abound in one of Bizet’s most beloved works. The second half of the concert begins with the famous opening of Beethoven’s mighty Fifth Symphony. This piece is, of course, known for its drama and gravitas, but I invite you to also indulge in the serenity of its slow movement, its rollicking dances, and the heroic triumph of its finale. The energy of these two masterpieces is electrifying, and I am thrilled to be sharing this powerful concert experience with our audience.”
